Welcome to Manchester, Rio

Football fans can at times be very like children. The scream and shout abuse when they don’t get their way, they moan incessantly when time added on goes to eight minutes and someone scores… the list is endless. What they fail to remember is that during those eight extra minutes, it’s not only one team who can play but both. And it’s this football fanaticism that has me writing about Man Utd today.

A while back I wrote this piece about Liverpool FC and Masterchef. It has, funnily, quickly become the most read post ever on this blog. Funny that. It’s always the ones you don’t expect. But that led to another problem. The Man Utd fans were not happy – why Liverpool? Didn’t I know Patrice Evra has his own cooking show? No.

Didn’t I know a Man Utd player was opening his own restaurant? No. But because you did what Manchester United fans do best, I thought it was time to tell the rest of the world.

Rio Ferdinand, whose brother helped the Red Devils to a lucky draw at the weekend, is set to open Rosso in November after some, ahem, ’soft launches’. The 30-year-old defender will open the Italian restaurant with entrepreneur Adam Karim alongside a third, silent partner.

Answers on a postcard as to how long it took Rio to come up with the word Red in Italian as the restaurant’s name? I wonder if Tevez will be welcome for a bowl of pasta? Now, I hope that will keep all you Man Utd fans happy.

You can leave a response, or trackback from your own site.

Thank you John. If Rio’s venture into the restaurant world is as successful as Utd on the pitch then it will do well. Are you allowed in wearing a utd shirt? Would like to think that there will be a sign on the front door saying “no football tops except champions man utd shirts” Scousers feel free to read Rio’s latest magazine.

Isn’t putting the Community Shield on your CV like me saying I went to the shops?

Now, now 303, you should know better than to put libellous comments on here. Comments of that nature won’t be tolerated.

It obviously was not the words “PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS” 303 put on which you had to remove.
Anyway while i am in Manchester in December watching the champions i will be calling into Rio’s restaurant for a pre match meal while 303 will be eating humble pie.

Rio has to something now that he has given up defending. After this season he won’t have any trophies to defend either. Come on the Pool, we dont need alonso, the fat spanish waiter know his stuff and he knows how to tell the time, unlike the scotsman with the big red nose.
