This week has already saw the Bengal Brasserie on the Lisburn Road go into administration (read more here). Now I’ve been told this morning that the Harbour View Restaurant near the Waterfront has closed its doors, though I know precious little other than that. Anyone heard any rumours to support or deny this?

Omens don’t look good at all. Some restaurants must be struggling to make ends meet.

Yeah, I’d imagine it’s difficult in times like these though in saying that the set menus at Harbour View range from £40 – £70, £70 is a lot of money for one person before you’ve had a drink, that really has moved into Michelin Star type money. I haven’t eaten there before so I can’t judge on whether it’s worth it or not but the whole high price thing I think has got to take a back seat for a while. I’m delighted to see places like the Merchant and Cayenne both bringing in cheaper menus, lets people try out great food at affordable prices

Harbour view is a great place with great food but agree its too expensive.
If i remember right venison was something like £30 and for your sides which were vegetables they were around £8.Once you pay for a starter on top of that and maybe desert and drinks you better be prepared for a massive bill !!!
I should know,i made the mistake of taking the folks there for their anniversary.
The bill for 4 – from 4 months ago – i am still paying off haha

Sounds expensive! I’ve just found out the Irish News ran a story claiming it had closed its doors but they didn’t have confirmation – “If confirmed, the closure of the Harbour View will be one of the most high-profile restaurants in Belfast to fail in the recession”. Not exactly a glowing guarantee it’s closed, but all the signs seem to point to them being spot on.

I cant get any good info on this but a chef friend had heard something was up, he wasnt sure if it had closed its doors though.

Not quite sure about the Irish News’ article – said it had closed sometime in the last two weeks, though I spoke to someone who had thought they saw it open a week or so ago, sounds like someone at the IN said they saw it open two weeks ago. In fairness they ain’t answering their phones and there’s no answer message

Never good. It always struck me as an Office / Corporate place to eat, never felt compeled to try it as a couple. Always heard good things about the £10 lunch, but then again.. thats £10 before drinks!

Funny you should say that Fattakin, I’ve never really fancied trying it for some reason – price maybe, but you’re right, it also struck me as more clinical than restaurant.
