Deep Fried Coke – the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse must be on their way

deepfriedcokeThroughout time, each decade has brought some sort of rebellion, often by the younger generation, and it’s normally set to music – the ’50s & ’60s saw young people throw off the shackles of dull music to go wild for Elvis and chums, the 70s (and much more exciting) saw the punk generation.

But it looks like in the Tens (and I thought Noughties was an awful name for the 2000-2009 period) or whatever they’ll be called could well see a rebellion of food. As the years have gone by, government has tried to talk us around to eating healthily – five a day and all that. But it seems that food rebellion is getting more extreme by the year. I remember in 2008 doing some stuff about the Heart Attack Bar and Grill in the US, which seemed extreme, but now after reading an article about the annual Florida State Fair I’ve begun to think there are some people out there just creating things for the sake of sticking two chubby fingers up to the authorities.

For at the State Fair you’ll find things like a Krispy Kreme Donut Burger, deep fried butter and the hard to fathom (and pictured, right) Coke batter balls.

Yes, someone has decided Coke isn’t bad enough for us in its current form. The delight is created by deep frying ping-pong sized chunks of batter made with Coke syrup, they’re then served topped with more Coke syrup, whipped cream, some cinnamon sugar and a cherry (to help with the five a day). Roll over battered Mars Bars, we have a new winner. Will this really be the decade remembered for a rebellion against healthy foods? If it is, those Four Horsemen must be on their way.

And if that’s not bad enough, check out this siteThis Is Why You’re Fat – and have a look at the ‘bacon bar’.
