‘Shot at because we own legal guns’ claims mother

By Kieran Hughes

A North Belfast woman who claims shots were fired at her house this week believes she was targeted because she owns legally held firearms.

Angela McNeill contacted the North Belfast News this week claiming shots has been fired at her Chestnut Gardens house in the early hours of Monday morning (September 19).

“Our dog was going crazy out the back of the house so I went to a back window to find out what was going on and I heard shots being fired,” she said.

“The only reason I can think we would be targeted is because I have legally held firearms and they were going to try and take them.”

She says she uses the firearms for recreational target shooting and that they are fully licensed.

She says her 15-year-old daughter, Jamie-Lee, is terrified to leave the house.

“My daughter is afraid to go out in case anyone is following her,” she said.

“We want to get on with our lives. My daughter shouldn’t have to face this sort of behaviour.”

A PSNI spokesperson said they received a report that a householder had heard what they believed to be shots in the Chestnut Gardens area shortly after 12.30am on Monday.

They added that enquiries are ongoing.
