AN Andersonstown News appeal has succeeded in giving these abandoned kittens the best early Christmas present of all – a new home.

Two weeks ago the adorable balls of fur were just some of the felines living with a local vet hoping to find families to adopt them. Now  almost all of the cats and kittens have found new homes, thanks to the Andersonstown News appeal.

Lauren McCracken, Assistant Veterinary Nurse at local animal surgery City Vets, said the response to our story was fantastic.

“We got all bar one of the kittens and cats rehomed,” she said.  “So many people rang saying they saw the article in the paper and wanted to help, we were so happy with the response.”

Although there are still seven weeks to go, one excited local boy got an early Christmas present too, as Lauren explained.

“A few of the people took a cat for their children and there was one little boy who was getting his Christmas kitten now because he simply couldn’t wait.  Other callers included people wanting to replace faithful cats that had passed away.”

Beautiful

But not every cat has found a home. Harley the tomcat is still in the market for a home, said Lauren.

“Harley is a beautiful four-month-old black and white kitten in need of a home,” she said.  “He is at our Lisburn Road branch and he is getting bored! We would love to find him a home.

“In the meantime, we would like to thank everyone who took an interest in the story so that we were able to find homes for the kittens and cats with nowhere else to go.”
