The PSNI have arrested three men after Bawnmore residents confronted passengers of a car who were accused of approaching a young boy in the area.
The North Belfast News understands the alarm was first raised on Sunday afternoon with local people getting involved yesterday after the men returned to a car park at a retail store on the Shore Road.
The men were confronted and had their car boxed in by local people who demanded to know why they were in the area. One man was able to escape but the other three were held until the PSNI could arrive.
Inspector Colin Ash conforming they had made arrests in connection with the incident.
“Shortly after 4.30pm it was reported that a number of males in a car were acting suspiciously in the area. It was reported that a car matching the description had been seen in the area of Bawnmore Park on Sunday evening and the occupants had approached a young boy close to a shop in the area.
“Police responded and the 3 males, aged 49, 55 and 58, were arrested in the Shore Road area on suspicion of going equipped for theft. A fourth male, who was reported to have been in the car, made off on foot along Mill Road.
“All three suspects remain in custody assisting police with their enquiries.”
