The groundbreaking Irish language and GAA summer scheme for young people Campa Chormaic returns to Belfast for another year.

Campa Chormaic is held in memory of Tyrone football captain Cormac McAnallen, who tragically died in 2004 of a heart condition. The event launched in Antrim six years ago, based on promoting two of Cormac’s biggest passions – the Irish language and Gaelic Games.

The camp’s mantra ‘Dúil sa Dúchas’ fosters pride in Irish culture, sports and is aimed at young people, boys and girls, aged 8-14 years. Young people are offered the chance to learn the Irish language and participate in football, hurling and camogie in an enjoyable and fun environment.

Fully qualified and vetted teachers, who encourage all children to actively participate in classes, activities and games, facilitate the summer scheme.

One of the organisers of Campa Chormaic Aontroma, Breanda Uí Chléirigh, said: “We are delighted to bring this fantastic camp to Belfast for the sixth time. We are very proud, honoured and grateful to be given the opportunity to organise the camp by Cormac’s family and the Campa Chormaic committee.”

The first week of Campa Chormaic Co Antrim for young people from Irish medium schools will take place between Monday 27-Friday 31 July in Bunscoil an tSléibhe Dhuibh and St John’s GAA club.
