A North Belfast schoolgirl who was secretly entered into a top teen beauty pageant by her sister has beaten off competition from thousands of other girls to reach the final. Carlie Mullaney from Ligoniel was entered into the Teen Face of NI by her sister Natasha earlier this year.

The student of Our Lady of Mercy Girls’ School was shocked when she received a phone call to tell her that she had made it to the final, to be staged in Newry in August.

The 16-year-old will now go up against 47 other finalists as they bid to win the title.

The lucky girl will fly to Disneyland in Paris in December for the Face of Europe Beauty Pageant. Carlie says the whole process has been a shock.

“My sister entered me into the competition without me knowing. I thought it was a prank call when they phoned to tell me to come to a photo shoot in Banbridge for the final,” she said.

“I delighted to have made the final and I am really looking forward to it.”

She is now busy preparing for the final and raising money for her chosen charities – Headway and Rainbow Children’s Foundation.

Carlie plans to hold fundraising events in the coming months and has appealed to anyone who is interested in sponsoring her to come along when the events are announced.
