A global celebration of independent music stores will take place this week with two Belfast based music organisations at the helm of local celebrations.

Local music and design company DSNT are joining forces with the Oh Yeah Music Centre in Belfast to host Record Store Day event this Saturday, 21st April.

Bands, singers and DJs will take part in the worldwide celebration to promote local independent retailers.

The free gig at the Oh Yeah centre in the centre of town is aimed at highlighting retail outlets situated in the Belfast area.

It will offer music lovers the opportunity to connect with local retailers, label artists, rifle through records and socialise over some free beer.

While all of this is taking place, those in attendance can enjoy an eclectic selection of exclusive live performances and DJ sets throughout the day.

From 12pm there will be vinyl spinning expertly mixed by local DJs including Belfast Music Club, Timmy Stewart, Twitch, AU Magazine DJs and Parsley Monkphat.

There will also be a chance to catch some incredible live performances at regular intervals throughout the day as some of the best local bands and music producers will be on hand to make the day that extra bit special.

Artists already confirmed include Tom McShane, Sad City, Sketch Nine, Third Man Theme and Kiana.

Director of DSNT, Oisin O’Brien, said: “Record Store Day is incredibly important to me because it acts as a means of showcasing the few independent stores and labels that are working so hard week in, week out to expose people to music which they otherwise might not hear.

“I am looking forward to seeing a diverse range of local talent and also, of course, the opportunity to buy some new music. Anyone that wants to enjoy and be exposed to the incredible talent we have in Northern Ireland should attend.”
