A Glengormley group set up just over a year ago in an effort to bring community cohesion to the area are appealing for new members to help their growing community building initiatives. Glengormley Community Group was set up in 2010 by a group of residents concerned at ongoing sectarian clashes and anti-social behaviour in their neighbourhoods.
Since then the group has been working with Queen’s Park Women’s Group to bring young people from different communities together. They have also helped start a cross community basketball initiative and other youth initiatives.
At their AGM at Glengormley Pavilion at the Lillian Bland Memorial Park last night (Wednesday) the group said any new members are very welcome.
“Currently our committee is very small and we are keen for any members of the community who would like to help us to get involved,” said Martine Andrews from the group.
“We are doing the best we can but if we had more members we could do a lot more.”
Next Saturday (March 10, 10am) the group will be launching their latest initiative – a community garden at Lilian Bland Memorial Park. The garden will be maintained by local school children.
