It’s official – there really is no excuse not to learn Irish as there are classes taking place in every corner of the city.
Against the backdrop of North Belfast artist Catherine McWilliam’s Cnoic Bhéal Feirste exhibition in the Cultúrlann, Fóram na n Gael launched their booklet Cúrsaí on Irish classes in the greater Belfast area on Tuesday morning.
Never before has learning Irish been so popular in Belfast and now the booklet has been compiled to let people know where they can go to find a class that best suits them.
Speaking on behalf of Irish Language Development Agency Fobairt Feirste, Feargal Mac Ionnrachtaigh said the comprehensive guide to Irish language classes starting across the city was “accessible to everyone”.
“It’s all there, classes are happening all over this city, from Glor na Móna in the Upper Springfield to classes here in the Cultúrlann, An Droichead and Ionad Uíbh Eachach, this is a guide to let people know and to find their nearest class,” said Feargal.
“All levels are catered for, whether it is basic conversation to advanced level, the information is here. In 2013 there are even more groups active on the ground and a wider range of events and courses than this city has ever seen.
“This booklet proves that a high standard of courses, services and festival are being provided for our community and all that is required is for people to seize the opportunity.
“The work to promote the Irish language is strengthening year on year. No-one has any more excuses not to learn the Irish language – it’s at your finger tips,” he added.
“Copies of the booklet are being distributed or people can call into Cultúrlann to pick up their own copy.”
