PG Bets of the Week
A FEW cracking bets to mention this week and we start with Springfield punter Karl Murray who took Ladbrokes for a four-figure sum at the weekend with a £2 stake.
The soon-to-be married Karl has been working hard in Dublin to pay for the nuptials later in the year and what a time for the local punter to strike gold.
After being out of luck on Saturday, Karl placed a £2 correct score bet treble for the Sunday games. He took Celta Vigo to beat Valladolid 3-1 in the early morning game in La Liga at 16/1 and when that touched the bet had now turned into a £34 double.
Next up was the Swansea v Arsenal game and it looked bad for Karl with just 10 minutes left and the Swans leading 1-0. But a flurry of late goals helped our punter and it ended 2-2, an 11/1 shot.
The sweat was well and truly on and in the last FA Cup game of the day he took Liverpool to win 2-1 at non-league Mansfield. After going 0-2 down, the minnows deservedly pulled one back but Karl’s joy at that goal was quickly followed by the realisation that this was going to be a very long 12 minutes indeed. Let’s just say it was nail-biting stuff for Karl and every one of those minutes seemed like an hour. But when that final whistle blew you could have heard the cheers back in Iris – he had just banked £3,240. A cracking bet and wedding paid for? Well, a wee bit of it, anyway.
On to the second bet of the week and a New Lodge punter took Sean Graham for over a grand with a £10 draw quad. His first three draws were up when Sunderland came back from 2-0 down to draw at Bolton, Leeds forced a replay with Birmingham and Stoke got a draw away at Crystal Palace.
The punter in question had binned his docket in the mistaken belief that QPR had been beaten 1-0 by West Brom. But Kieran Dyer had popped up in the 93rd minute to claim a draw and it wasn’t until the final scores came in that the punter noticed. Let’s just say our punter was in the bin like a shot to recover his docket and no wonder – he had scooped a tidy £1047.65 with his four draws
