The Olympic torch was in West Belfast this week. The Sports Council  selected St Dominic’s Grammar School for Girls as the venue to welcome the torch to this part of the city. The torch arrived at St Dominic’s on Tuesday morning to proceed through a guard of honour before representatives from the Sports Council addressed staff, pupils and invited guests.

Opportunity

“St Dominic’s Grammar School for Girls were honoured to host the Olympic Torch at its unveiling to Northern Ireland,” said school PE teacher Laura McCann.

“Both pupils and staff were filled with a great sense of pride to be given the opportunity to welcome the torch due to what it represents to the world.  This event also allowed for the two torchbearers from St Dominic’s to get a practice run with the torch for their leg on June 6.”
