Can any eagle eyed readers spot themselves in this photo taken in Ardoyne 30 years ago? Local woman Margaret McGreevy found the old picture in a photo album and brought it into the North Belfast News to see if the teenagers in the photograph recognise themselves.

The photograph was taken of a youth training programme scheme (YTP) in 1982 at Flax Street. In the middle of the teenagers is well known Ardoyne priest Fr Myles Kavanagh. The Holy Cross Passionist priest set up the Flax Trust along with parish sisters Sr Joan Brosnan and Sr Mary Turley in 1977 in order to give disadvantaged young people in the area a chance for employment.

Margaret said she is one of many local people who went through a YTP scheme and she still knows many of the teenagers in the photograph.

“I can still name most of them and know most of the people in the photograph even now,” she said.

“I thought I’d bring it in to see if everyone recognised themselves and for people to have a look at it. It’s nearly 30 years old now, so it’s hard to believe all that time has passed.”
