Greengate

The last outing before captain’s weekend in September and the boys of Greengate headed up the coast to a wet and misty Whitehead.

Conditions cleared up after four holes played and everyone returned to the clubhouse safely. Davy Winchester picked up his second victory of the year, maybe he has peaked at the right time, as we head off next month to Headford. Well played Davy.

Second overall on the day was Cathal Devenny whose form of late has been up and down. Cathal had a steady round, which was good to see.

Third place was won by next year’s captain John Kavanagh, just beaten by Cathal on the countback. Ray ‘the Coke’ Gregory, not for the first time this year, won the Par threes.

Well played Ray. At the tricky par three ninth hole Paul Farrelly hit a lovely shot 6 feet from the flag to win nearest the pin. The longest drive at the 10th hole was won by Cathal Devenny. For a while Ben Sayers had his name on the marker but in the end Cathal won it by a country mile.

Back in the clubhouse after the prize giving the draws were made for the fourball order of play for next month, with some mouthwatering pairings.

This year a new competition with two-man teams playing for an aggregate score will add to the two-day competition.

I have been sworn to secrecy by captain Digger for the captain’s prize, and call I can say lads is it will be worth winning. See you all next month at Headford.
