A tribute lecture and night of entertainment will be held in Greencastle this week in memory of a well known local republican who died suddenly in February this year.

The first annual Jim Gillen Lecture will be held in the Fountain Bar this Saturday (September 3) and is on Greencastle’s Struggle for Irish Freedom followed by music and entertainment.

Belfast Lord Mayor Niall Ó Donnghaile, North Belfast MLA Gerry Kelly and Sinn Fein’s Sean Oliver will speak at the event. Fairyknowe Gardens man Jim Gillen passed away in February this year. The former republican prisoner was well known in the area.

Jim’s daughter Mary said all local people are welcome to attend the event. The night will kick off at 8pm and admission is £5.
