Just want to let people know that an 11-yr-old boy and three young girls were assaulted by five 16- and 17-yr-old lads on Thursday night in the Deerpark Road. The young boy was beaten with sticks by the crowd who had come up from Glenbryn. The PSNI were called but we were informed that they were too busy to investigate.
Is there ever going to be a club for the children aged 6 -16 of Carlisle to go to? I know there is the Grey Gables and the Star but all we have is an after-school club in NQS for the kids to go to. I'm not trying to get my kids minded, it’s just if there is somewhere for them to go to for an hour at night the chances of them getting involved in anti-social behaviour would drop.
Suicide awareness? Maybe if there wasn’t so much awareness there wouldnt be so many suicides. I’m only 30 and when I was growing up it was never spoken about and hardly anyone did it, now my ten-year-old knows what it means and it’s all you ever hear. Suicide is so shocking and so awful and completely devastating for families, but it’s so commonly talked about now it’s not normal. Stop advertising suicide and help to stop this madness.
Who does that wee girl on the Crossroads documentary think she is? I don't fit in with the mentality of Ardoyne. Me and my brothers and sisters have all been reared in Ardoyne and two of us both have degrees and my younger sister is also working towards one. Is that the mentality she is talking about? I am proud of where I am from and do not think I am better than anyone nor do I think anyone is better than than me.
Doctors in the Mater hospital want to get their fingers out and start helping people in North Belfast. We are losing far too many decent people. It’s so sad there is nothing out there to offer anyone.
Here, Gridlock: I do a fairly short school run but then I go on and drive to work myself. I don’t drive the kids five minutes to school and then go home. The school is on my way to work, so I drop the children off first. What would you like me to do? Walk them to school, then walk back and get the car and head to work, passing the school on the way? If you weren’t so busy twitching the curtains you’d realise that people’s lives are busier and more complicated than you think.
A quick note to taxi drivers (mostly private, but sometimes black): The Highway Code does not say that when you put your hazard lights on you can do whatever you like. Double-parking is not okay because your hazards are on; blocking narrow streets does not become acceptable because all your blinkers are on. Hazard lights are exactly that – to warn other drivers that your vehicle is causing a hazard because something is wrong. Not because you want to park where you’re not allowed.
To Desperate Dad: I’m not saying who’s right and who’s wrong in your particular circumstances, and I sympathise with you on not seeing your kids. But I bet a million dollars if your former partner was to text in her side of the story you wouldn’t come out of it quite so squeaky-clean and hard-done-by. There are three sides to every story, as my mother used to say – yours, mine and the truth. As ever, the blame probably lies somewhere in the middle. I recommend you stop feeling sorry for yourself, find out why it is your partner is taking such a hard line (if you don’t already know) and then take steps to put things right. It’s never too late.
To Pointless: I wish Belfast City Council would just do their job. I guarantee you that a dedicated officer tasked with targeting dog dirt hotspots would earn his or her salary and a lot more on top by issuing spot penalties. He or she would only need to issue four or five fines a day to pay his or her wages, but the truth is that in the space of eight hours he or she would probably be able to issue many times that amount.
In response to Abandoned: Those people up at Stormont pay more for a suit than OAPs and young families have to spend on heat and power for an entire year. They get their food subsidised, they have free offices, free electricity, free heat. As long as they’re okay they don’t give a fig about what the ordinary people are suffering. That electricity and gas price hike was what my son would call an ‘epic fail’ on the part of the politicians, and yet not a thing will be done about it and we will continue to elect people not through passion or ability or effectiveness, but because of the colour of the flag they wave at election time.
Reply to Justice or What?: We shouldn’t be shocked by anything that happens in the courts in Scotland. Sectarianism there is the country’s secret shame. It’s rampant and what’s more nobody’s allowed to say so or they get it in the neck pronto. The silence of the politicians is an equal if not greater shame. A slanging match at a Celtic-Rangers game and there’s a top-level summit. The judicial system is shown to be useless and it’s immediately forgotten about.
In reply to the concerned Hollybrook neighbour I totally agree with you with in regards to the speed of traffic in and out of the estate, particularly Hollybrook Court. Also the amount of large commercial vehicles in the area is a disgrace and a danger to our children. Yes people need to get to work but Translink provide the same and safer service. These people need to think about the danger and inconvenience they are bringing to Hollybrook residents. A dog this time but how long before it's a child. Be responsible and think.
Some two facedness in Prospect Park, you know who you are! I seen it all with my own eyes. Youse have a cheek to say anything about anyone, why don’t you grow a pair and say to a certain person’s face.
Spurs Harry Redknapp’s comments after beating Hearts describing them as a top Scottish team. He thought Spurs were out of this world. Welcome back to planet earth. Man City put five past them so on his thinking Spurs aren’t good enough for the English premier league.
In the interests of parity of esteem will Carál Ní Chuilín go to Dublin in the future to attend a Republic of Ireland international match given that most nationalists in the North regard the Republic as their national team and not the Six Counties soccer squad.
