THE owners of Clifton House Residential Home in North Queen Street are appealing to family members to claim paintings of former residents.
Whilst archiving historic documents, staff at the Belfast Charitable Society uncovered a number of paintings of former residents of Clifton House Residential Home and they’d like to return them to their families.
It is believed the paintings were painted between 1940 and 1980 by the well-known and respected artist and former President of the Belfast Charitable Society, Thomas Everard Spence.
The paintings were on display in the home until the refurbishment of the buildings in 2003 when the they were removed for safe storage.
The Society now feels that they should be returned to the families of the residents – if they can trace them.
It is very likely that the residents in the paintings will have since passed away and records of their family members are unfortunately no longer available.
