POLICE have made two arrests following a report of arson and an aggravated burglary in Twinbrook on Saturday.
Police received a report of a fire at 1.45pm this afternoon at a flat in the Cherry Walk area.
Detective Sergeant Barnes said: “Extensive damage was caused to the property – with some damage also noted to nearby properties. Thankfully, however, no injuries were reported.
“Colleagues from Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the blaze.
“Detectives conducting follow up enquiries arrested a 25-year-old woman and 38-year-old man on suspicion of offences including arson endangering life with intent. They remain in custody at this time.
“One line of enquiry is that shortly before the flat fire, a man and woman entered the property, and threatened the occupier with a knife – he was able to push the suspects out, however, and was unharmed.
“Our enquiries are at an early stage to determine exactly what happened.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV, dash-cam or other footage of the area or who noticed suspicious behaviour. Please phone us on 101, quoting reference numbers 824 and 825 03/10/26.”
