WEST Belfast rappers Kneecap have added their names to a letter in support of Irish writer Sally Rooney.
The letter, titled 'Sally Rooney is a writer, not a terrorist' was published on Wednesday in The New Statesman, and was written in response to the author's books being withdrawn from sale due to her support for the Palestine Action group.
The Normal People and Conversations with Friends author said earlier this month she was being forced to withdraw her books from sale in the UK because of her support for the banned organisation Palestine Action.
Rooney said that the decision was taken after a "process of consultation and deliberation" with her publisher Faber.
"Sally Rooney is a writer, not a terrorist," the letter begins.
"Her books must be available to the public. Their withdrawal from sale, on the basis of ill-conceived and draconian anti-terror legislation, is an affront to basic principles of free speech and expression so long taken for granted in this country.
"We categorically reject censorship – whether direct or indirect – and urge the government to change course, amending the legislation which has led us to this point of repressive absurdity."
The letter has also been signed by other high-profile Irish figures including Paul Mescal, Michael Magee, and Annie Macmanus.
