ANTHONY Cacace will fight this December in the first defence of his WBA super-featherweight world title in Belfast’s Odyssey Arena.
The West Belfast MP takes on Liverpudlian Nick Ball who comes off the back of a narrow defeat in February at the hands of Brandon Figueroa in the defence of the WBA featherweight title.
Cacace last fought against another Liverpool native Jazza Dickens in Dublin’s 3Arena where he got the unanimous decision to take the world title strap and send his record to an impressive 25-1. In the immediate aftermath Anto expressed dissatisfaction with this performance and will be keen to shine again come Christmas time in Belfast.
It is a fight that suits both men. Both have not fought since early this year. Cacace will be confident of getting a victory on home soil. Ball will be grateful of another shot at the world title so soon after losing his WBA featherweight title. Despite going up in weight Ball is confident that he can do the business in Belfast where he has fought once before in the successful defence of his WBC Silver featherweight title in 2023.
Southpaw Cacace at 5’10’’ has the superior reach towering over Ball at 5’2’’. Known for his stamina and aggressive style the Liverpudlian will be a tricky opponent for the Andersonstown man who favours deceptive feints and explosive combinations over raw power.
With a little over 15 weeks to go until the first bell there is plenty of time for both men to prepare. Cacace has said he is keen to return to the ring after some deserved time away to spend with his family. We await the conformation for the rest of the card.
