Jamal Ghabes is a refugee who arrived from Syria a few years ago. In the summer of 2024, Jamal lost his job after a racist attack targeted the business where he was working on Donegall Road in Belfast. Following the incident, Jamal no longer felt safe in the area and began searching for alternative employment in a safer part of Belfast.
Later, he partnered with Dr. Raied Al-Wazzan to establish a new business on Andersonstown Road. Zain Supermarket opened its doors on 22 October 2025, receiving tremendous support from the local community. The supermarket specialises in halal food, spices, Mediterranean products, and Arabic food.
