Best of the West 2025

BEST AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER FINALIST - Michael McCafferty

Your Name: Michael McCafferty

Your favourite thing about West Belfast: I was born, raised and still live in West Belfast. The people are the best thing about West Belfast. Most people are friendly, honest, down to earth, work hard and know how to enjoy themselves.

Your First Job: Trolley Pusher at Makro

What it taught you: Stay in school, get an education and a decent job!

What do you think are the key ingredients needed to make a person or organisation the Best of the West?  For me, it’s about being completely passionate about what you do, always learning, and staying grounded. The Best of the West should be someone who puts their heart into their work, has a story to tell, and treats others with kindness. I think it’s important to give back, whether it’s sharing your knowledge to help others grow, or simply taking time to thank those close to you who offer their support and guidance. It’s the small, consistent efforts that leave a lasting impression.

I'm a fine art landscape photographer, dedicated to capturing the beauty of Ireland. I ultimately want viewers of my work to feel something emotionally, to pause, relax, and appreciate how lucky we are to call Ireland home. I also enjoy mentoring and sharing knowledge with other photographers.
