Best advice you could give someone thinking of a teaching career: Teaching is an amazing job. To have the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of others is an absolute privilege but then to have your own life enriched by those around you makes it the best job in the world.
Following the completion of my A-Levels I went to Queen's University and completed an English degree followed by a PGCE in English. My first permanent job was in Foyle College where I taught for two years before being appointed to Grosvenor Grammar School. During my 11 years in Grosvenor I was afforded the opportunity to lead in various different positions, including Senior Teacher for six years.
During that time, I completed a Masters Degree in Education and the Professional Qualification for Headship (NI) qualification. This further professional development as well as my experience prepared me for my appointment to Vice Principal (Curriculum) in Antrim Grammar School in 2014. Three years later I became Principal of Antrim Grammar School and enjoyed leading the school for a further five years. In 2022 I was appointed as Principal of Methodist College Belfast.
I absolutely love my job and am thankful to all those who continue to inspire me in my leadership.
