DIARMAID Carroll's early goal strike in the second half set up the Tyrone champions on their way to claiming victory over Naomh Éanna on Sunday afternoon and ending the Hightown sides hopes of progression to the Ulster semi-final.
St Patrick's produced a strong second-half performance to overcome Naomh Éanna in an entertaining encounter, with a late goal from Liam Nugent proving decisive as the hosts eventually pulled clear in the closing stages.
There was little between the sides for much of the contest, with both teams enjoying spells of dominance, but Rock showed greater composure when it mattered to ensure they came out on top after a competitive battle.
Kristian Healy got Naomh Éanna off the mark with the opening score, but Rock responded almost immediately through Liam Nugent before Peter Loughran edged the hosts in front with another effort from play.
The Hightown Road men were finding opportunities difficult to come by, with Oisin Mac Nia producing two excellent saves inside the opening ten minutes to deny Naomh Éanna and keep Rock in the driving seat.
Shane Murphy extended the advantage with a superb two-point free in the 12th minute, although Stephen O’Connor responded for the visitors to get them back on the scoreboard.
There was another important intervention at the opposite end when Sean Nagle produced a terrific save to deny Conor McGarrity, before Murphy added a 45 to keep Rock ticking over.
However, Naomh Éanna began to find their rhythm and were rewarded in the 20th minute when Fionn Nagle blasted the ball to the net following an excellent move involving Mickey Morgan and O’Connor.
The goal brought the sides level and gave the Hightown men renewed confidence. Morgan then edged them in front with a converted two-point free, putting the visitors in a promising position.
Rock refused to panic, though, with Nugent replying from play before converting another free to bring the sides level once again.
Sean McBride restored Naomh Éanna's advantage in the 29th minute, but Odhran Eastwood responded for Rock to leave the sides deadlocked heading into the closing stages of the half.
It was Rock who made the perfect start to the second period, with Diarmaid Carroll punching the ball to the net to put the hosts firmly back in control.

Naomh Éanna refused to let the hosts get away from them, with Eastwood converting a free to reduce the deficit before O’Connor produced another excellent effort to leave just a single point between the sides in the 54th minute.
The visitors were very much back in contention and appeared capable of forcing a dramatic finish, but Rock had one more decisive blow in their locker.
With the game entering injury time, Nugent found the net to give the hosts a crucial cushion and leave Naomh Éanna with a huge task in the remaining minutes.
Eastwood added another free to stretch the lead to three points, although Odhran Carroll responded for Naomh Éanna to keep their hopes alive.
Cather McKenna then found the target for the Hightown men, but Rock continued to manage the closing exchanges and Nugent eventually put the result beyond doubt with a converted free in the 66th minute.
It was a hard-earned victory for Rock St Patrick’s, who showed resilience throughout a contest in which Naomh Éanna repeatedly threatened to take control.
For the Hightown men, Fionn Nagle's goal and the contributions of O’Connor and Morgan provided plenty of attacking quality, while their second-half response ensured they remained in the hunt until the closing stages.
However, Rock had the answers when required, with Nugent's late goal proving the defining moment and Murphy's contribution from placed balls helping the hosts maintain their advantage.
Ultimately, the hosts' ability to find the net at crucial stages proved the difference in an entertaining contest.
