NORTH Belfast residents are being invited to attend a public meeting later this month to discuss the issues affecting "local families and communities".

Hosted by Aontú, the event will take place on Thursday 29 October at 7.30pm in the Lansdowne Hotel, 657 Antrim Road. The meeting will provide local people with an opportunity to raise concerns, ask questions and engage directly with representatives on the issues that matter most to them.

The public meeting will be addressed by Aiden Carlin, Aontú North Belfast representative, and Councillor Margaret Anne McKillop.

Key topics on the agenda will include health services, cost of living, housing, Irish unity and fuel prices.

Aiden Carlin said: "Families across North Belfast continue to face real pressures. This meeting is an opportunity for local residents to raise the issues that matter most to them and engage in a constructive discussion about solutions."

Councillor Margaret Anne McKillop added: "We want to hear directly from people about their experiences and concerns. Everyone is welcome to attend, ask questions and contribute to the conversation."

The meeting comes as Aiden Carlin has been announced as Aontú’s candidate for Castle District Electoral Area in North Belfast for next May's council election.

He said: “Aontú speaks for people who have been ignored for far too long. Aontú is not here to whisper. We are here to be a voice — strong, steady, principled — for every person who has been left behind by the chaos of Stormont mismanagement. This is our time.”

Aiden brings 25 years of experience in defending human rights, including 13 years as a director of a Belfast law firm. His legal career has included representing clients before the UK Supreme Court and the Oireachtas.

A father and law tutor at Queen’s University Belfast, Aiden also has an academic background in Political Science and Irish politics. He says his professional experience, knowledge of local issues and all-island perspective will inform his approach to public service.
