A MAN has been arrested after a car made off from police in the Whiterock Road area of West Belfast shortly after 12.15am on Monday morning.
Officers were out on patrol around the Falls Park area as part of public safety operations during the Féile an Phobail when they observed a vehicle swerving across the road, narrowly avoiding hitting pedestrians.
The vehicle was quickly stopped by police; however, the driver then sped off, striking an officer on his right side as a result and causing injury to his knee and hand.
The car left Belfast and was later apprehended by officers in the Tobar Glen Crescent area of Glengormley.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a number of driving offences, including dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, failing to remain where accident occurred causing injury and failing to report an accident whereby injury was caused. He was also further arrested in suspicion of possession of a Class B controlled drug.
He remains in police custody at this time.
Sergeant McCullough said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information, including dash-cam, CCTV or other footage, can contact police on 101, quoting reference number 21 of 10/08/26.”
