A DAY of events and solidarity with Palestine took place as part of Féile an Phobail.
Palestine Day took place in St Mary's University College with events from 11am to 7pm.
Organised by Belfast Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Trades Union Friends of Palestine it featured discussions, films, a live link with Gaza, Palestinian food and two book launches.
Sue Pentel from IPSC said: "Palestine Day is an annual highlight of Féile an Phobail and this year was no exception.
"It was a packed house from start to finish. British Journalist Anne Cadwallader chaired a session with Romana Rubeo, managing editor of the Palestine Chronicle who spoke about Palestinian women, resistance and media bias.
"This was followed by a presentation of the Hands Up drama project and live link with Gaza. It was heartbreaking to hear that some of the children who had visited Belfast had been killed in the genocide.
"Wieland Hoban, Chair of Jewish Voice for a Just Piece, spoke about Germany's use of holocaust guilt to justify its support for Israel as he launched his book 'Germany's Jewish Problem' and its suppression of Jewish voices who oppose Israeli genocide and Zionism.
"The highlight of the day was the keynote lecture by Dr Ramzy Baroud, as he launched his Gaza family memoir, 'Before the Flood'. Ramzy spoke movingly about the loss of his sister, Dr Soma Baroud, the 166th physician to be deliberately and brutally murdered by Israeli warplanes in Khan Younis, Gaza, in an airstrike on a taxi taking her home after work.
"Before the Flood is not just a family memoir but a living testament to the unbreakable will of the Palestinian people whose very daily existence, with no clean water, lack of shelter and daily attacks and airstrikes by Israeli forces, is an act of resistance. He spoke at length about how every action taken in Ireland builds on the significant shift in opinion that we have seen since the start October 7th, the isolation of Israel as a pariah state and the global movement in support for the Palestinian people.
"He called not for sympathy, or for passive solidarity but for accountability. Palestinians will prevail and they will win their freedom.
"It was a great day of solidarity."
