AARON Heaney's first-half goal was enough to ensure that the 'Ton earned a vital three points over Warrenpoint on Saturday afternoon and continue their unbeaten start to the Boyle Sports NIFL Championship as they remain perched in first place after six games.
In a match that lacked any real quality and conviction from both sides the North Belfast club would pop up with the only real piece of quality coming in the form of Aaron Heaney's strike which came just ten minutes before the break after a terrific set-piece move from the away side.
Heaney was on hand at the far post to pounce on the delivery and slot the ball into the back of the net much to the joy of the travelling support.
Newington held firm in the second-half but much of their defensive resilience fell to the brilliance of goalkeeper Adam Ritchie who denied the hosts on multiple occasions and late on prevented a great chance at an equaliser.
Ritchie's heroics earned him a spot in the NIFL Championship team of the week and Newington clinched all three points in an important away victory which kept them a single point ahead of Harland and Wolf Welders in second spot.
The away win proves a great level of resilience and a strong attitude from the 'Ton who continue to set the tone at the top of the table.
Newington return to action on Saturday September 12th when they take on Dundela at Solitude, tickets are available on the club website or alternatively entry at the door with kick-off set for 3pm.
