THE PSNI are appealing for information in relation to the attempted murder of a man in West Belfast in 2025, and have released footage of a person who may be able to assist with their enquiries.
Republican Network for Unity member Sean O’Reilly was shot during a republican feud as he sat in his taxi.
Their appeal is backed by a renewed reward of up to £20,000 from the charity Crimestoppers, who can be contacted with total anonymity.
The victim, then aged 49, was shot on the morning of 23 February 2025 in the Bell Steel Manor area.
Detective Inspector Jack Kelly said: “This attack, in which a number of shots were fired, was a targeted and cold-blooded attempt to take a man’s life.
“It happened in broad daylight in a busy area of West Belfast, when anyone – any passer-by – could also have been injured or killed.
“Such shocking, premeditated violence has absolutely no place in today’s society, and we remain determined in our efforts to bring those responsible to justice.”
Detective Inspector Kelly continued: “Today, we are releasing footage of a man whom we’re keen to speak with, as we believe he may be able to help with our investigation.
“Please take a good look at this footage. Importantly, we would ask you not to speculate about the man’s identity or post comments on social media. If you recognise him, please get in touch.”
The detective has asked anyone with information to contact the team on 101, quoting reference 664 of 23/02/25.
He added: “I’m also keen to stress that Crimestoppers, who are a charity and independent of police, can be contacted with total anonymity. The charity is offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information received directly that leads to the arrest and conviction of any person or people linked to the attempted murder. With Crimestoppers, calls are never recorded, there’s no caller line display or 1471 facility, and computer IP addresses can never be traced.”
