Best advice you could give someone thinking of a teaching career: Engage in a range of experiences working with children to see if you wish to pursue a career in this area. In the classroom, be welcoming and encouraging to students. Be passionate about lessons, set high expectations and be consistent. Enjoy what you do – teaching is an adventure that will provide you with many challenges and great rewards.
Having taught for over 20 years, I have developed a passion for education. A Business Studies teacher and business enthusiast, I love imparting my knowledge to students and pride myself on being a highly organised leader and teacher. I aim to create an ethos of aspiration and high achievement and I see the importance of inspiring students to develop their skills and qualities. As a Head of Department for over 15 years, I have overseen the running of the department and seek to drive improvement in all areas of my work. Through my role as Careers Assistant, I enjoy supporting students as they embark on their own career journey. I am committed to providing opportunities beyond the classroom for students and encourage them to engage in such experiences.
In addition, I enjoy liaising with stakeholders to forge links and improve my professional competency. Aside from spending time with family, sport and music are my main interests and I can be frequently spotted at the side of a pitch or on a golf course. I am equally happy when singing.
