Subject or Primary School Year: Nursery

Where you studied: Ulster University, Magee

What was your first job? Shop assistant

What did your first job teach you? The importance of what a simple thank you and good manners could mean to someone’s day.

Family/Status: Single

Best advice you would give to someone thinking of a teaching career:  Keep going! Some days can be tough but there is no job as rewarding as being someone’s teacher. Hearing and seeing them do the things that you’ve taught them and hearing them say that you’re the best teacher is the most rewarding thing of all time.

Shannon says that she is forever grateful to her parents for giving her the gift of Irish Medium Education. She went through her educational journey through the medium of Irish before deciding to study Irish further in Ulster University at Magee. From working in a Gaelscoil as a TA, she knew that was where her career was heading. After finishing her PGCE she headed to Doha to start her teaching career, but she soon realised that her dream was already back home in an Irish school. Shannon secured a maternity post in Gaelscoil na Móna and has been there ever since. She says she is forever grateful to be a part of a loving community and being a small part of the children’s learning journey while also growing with them.
