A LISBURN man is preparing to complete his milestone 500th parkrun at Wallace Park this weekend.
Gary Green (42) ran his first parkrun in 2015 and this Saturday will bring up the fantastic milestone of 500 parkrun events.
Speaking to the Andersonstown News, Gary explained: "I have always been a keen runner just for fitness have completed various running events such as 10k races and half marathon races too.
"My parents had been doing the parkrun at Wallace Park in Lisburn for about a year and said to me about coming along one Saturday morning.
"I went along and really enjoyed it. I did my first run in 2015 and it became a bit of a bug for me. It is a real community event and I have met so many people through it. It has become a big part of my fitness routine.
"I can't believe this Saturday will be my 500th parkrun. I think there will be a cake and stuff and a bit of a celebration afterwards just to mark the milestone for me.
"I have also played a bit part in being involved in the parkrun community with volunteering on several occasions such as marshalling and on scanning duty after all runners and walkers have completed their runs.
"I have always enjoyed being part of parkrun and think its a great community event for the local area in Lisburn and has become very popular all over the country and beyond.
"I will definitely continue doing it and I would recommend anyone who is thinking of getting into fitness to get involved and give it a go."
