I AM repulsed by the macabre prospect of the abortion promotion scheduled by the City Fathers of Belfast for 28 September.
This exhibition of disdain for the defenceless unborn child – in aid of some anti-life event – departs from our basic Christian heritage. Decent Catholic and Protestant voters everywhere across the North have expressed heart-felt revulsion at such a display. Is there no way that the Christian voice of Belfast people can be heard and heeded?
Hardly surprising that parties like Sinn Féin, long abandoned by practising Christians, are eagerly promoting this event. Yet I also note that the SDLP, which was traditionally a bastion of Christian pro-life ethics under previous leaders like John Hume, Séamus Mallon and Margaret Ritchie, has descended into fanciful secularism so as to embrace this spectacle. How one’s stomach turns when recalling former MP Joe Hendron, Paschal Ó Hare and Eddie McGrady MP (both RIP), all pro-life champions in the 1980/90s.
Questions therefore beg how the current nest of “secular apostles” within the SDLP have permeated their anti-life agenda to the party? Moreover, they seem to have avoided accountability. To this day many God-fearing Catholics still vote SDLP, evidently oblivious to their real track record.
First, I urge Christians of all denominations to unite to defeat this wretched abomination at City Hall. Second, if current SDLP leaders have become so isolated from their own voters, then perhaps it is time to look at other alternatives?
Moreover, I express full solidarity with the various Evangelical pastors who’ve lately been harassed by police and courts for preaching life and the Holy Bible outside hospitals and City Hall. That is totally wrong and must cease. Generally, the pastors, in alliance with my good friend, Mrs Bernadette Smyth of Precious Life, are mounting a necessary battle in defence of Christian Ireland’s heritage against an unwelcome “Anti-Christ” imposition.
May God strengthen and embolden those Christian defenders everywhere!
