MARITIME Belfast is proudly supporting the Community Impact Award at next year’s Blackboard Awards, recognising the outstanding contribution made by education professionals to schools, families and communities across Belfast.

Maritime Belfast is a charitable organisation dedicated to preserving and promoting Belfast’s maritime and industrial heritage, while developing the city’s historic waterfront as a destination for local people and visitors.

The Community Impact Award celebrates educational professionals whose work extends beyond the classroom. This can include supporting children and families, strengthening community relationships, encouraging young people to reach their potential and helping make schools a positive force in the areas they serve.

The award reflects the important role schools play in building stronger, more connected communities, as well as in delivering education.

The 2026 gong went to Áine McIlhone from Holy Evangelists’ Primary School.

Andrea Thornbury, Head of Projects and Programmes at Maritime Belfast Trust said: “We are delighted to sponsor the Community Impact Award at the 2027 Blackboard Awards, recognising the people in our schools who make a real difference to young people and the wider community.

"Through our work on Belfast Historic Waterfront, a designated Heritage Place through The National Lottery Heritage Fund, we are focused on reconnecting people with Belfast’s rich maritime heritage and helping communities feel part of the waterfront’s future.

"We know how important local communities, organisations and schools are in building that connection, particularly in helping younger generations understand the history and heritage of the place on their doorstep.

"The Blackboard Awards provide a valuable opportunity to celebrate the individuals who inspire, support and positively influence young people every day, and whose contribution helps strengthen communities across Belfast.”

The 2027 Blackboard Awards take place on Friday, February 5, 2027 at the Europa Hotel in Belfast.
