A WEXFORD woman has been attracting a huge response online with her song in support of the Garvaghy Road residents.

Chloe Fortune, aged 22, recorded her song 'Garvaghy Road' after seeing images of the protests online. She was invited up to the Garvaghy Road by residents soon after posting the song, where she performed it on the road during the stand-off.

The song has since been streamed over one million times on social media.

"I saw what was happening up on the Garvaghy Road and I knew it was wrong," said Chloe. "I remember daddy said to me that I should write a song about it. Twenty minutes later I wrote a song and posted it."

"I wrote it on the Wednesday and went up to the Garvaghy Road on the Friday and performed it."

Chloe started gigging two years ago, and performs in Wexford, around Tipperary, Dublin and Carlow. She has found particular success on her Instagram and TikTok pages, and she said that young people north and south are much more attuned to politics than people give them credit for.

"I think it's because when you actually look into the history of it. When I was playing on the road, people were crying and really emotional. I didn't think it was as meaningful as it was until I went up there.

"I wrote the song, posted it on TikTok and it got on really well. When I started playing you could see people who went through this years ago crying. It was just wrong, what was happening to them.

"Social media is a big thing now. The song was all over TikTok and I've got a young following on my pages and they were able to share it and learn about what's going on."

Chloe has received some hate comments on videos of her performing the song. Although difficult to receive, she said she has ignored the majority of them. She said it was a surreal experience being on the Garvaghy Road and seeing these images first hand.

"It was surreal. You see it on the news, and when we first arrived we went to the community centre. You were driving by the road and thinking how strange it was, because you were seeing what happened on the road just a few days ago.

"I was happy to be there though."
