REID Billy 50th Anniversary In proud and loving memory of my beloved brother Lieut Billy Reid, Staff Officer “C Coy 3rd Batt, Belfast Brigade P.I.R.A Killed while on active service May 15th 1971 aged 32. In a lonely grave in Milltown he sleeps his last long sleep and in our homes in West Belfast his memory we shall keep. To teach our youth his love of truth, his scorn of wrong and fear, and teach them to love our land as you did our brave Volunteer. It was down and by Academy Street on the 15th day of May, it was there I lost my brother, it was there he passed away. Ireland lost a brave young man, no braver man I know and because his love for Ireland he fought against the foe. We were just an average family, we didn’t ask for more, then our lives were changed forever by the knock upon our door. This awful thing had happened and none of us knew why, only that our Billy wasn’t coming home and we didn’t say goodbye. To the world you were one Billy, to us who loved and lost you, you were the world. Remembered with love, pride, honour and respect by your brother Patsy, sister-in-law Marie, nieces (God-daughter) Martine, Trisha, nephews Billy, Hugh and Paul and their children who never got the privilege of meeting you.
