ST Kieran’s Nursery School in Poleglass have celebrated their 40th anniversary with a special Mass and refreshments back at the school.

Fr Nideesh Varghese celebrated Mass at Church of the Nativity with staff and Board of Governors past and present in attendance along with current nursery pupils and parents. Everyone was then invited back to the school for sandwiches, treats, tea and coffee.

Principal Marie-Claire McIlroy said it was a proud milestone for everyone at the school and the local community.

"There has been a lot of preparation. Our Board of Governors and staff, parents and children worked on our new mission statement 'Kind Hands, Warm Hearts and Open Minds'," she explained.

"The children have been busy painting pictures and getting the school ready for today's celebrations.

"It is a huge achievement for us all. We have a classroom assistant who was a pupil here and our kitchen staff as well was a pupil here.

"It is 40 years of hard work and dedication. It is nice to give something back to the community. It belongs to them.

"We have a fun day for the children planned later in the year."
