A COFFEE morning fundraiser for MacMillan charity has been held at Whiterock Children's Centre in memory of former staff member Sharon Nelson.
Sharon (47) passed away in January after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Sharon worked tirelessly for the community of West Belfast during her twenty-year career in roles within the Falls Community Council.
She worked at Whiterock Children’s Centre as a Community Development and Family Support Worker.
This week staff and service users came together alongside Sharon's family for a coffee morning to raise money for MacMillan Cancer charity.
Speaking to the Andersonstown News, Deirdre Walsh, Centre Manager said: "We always try and do something for MacMillan but this year is our first coffee morning since we lost Sharon Nelson.
"Sharon was a big part of the team here. She was here for four years.
"She was also a big part of our annual Christmas appeal and had great contacts.
"Even in the last year of her life when she left due to deteriorating health, she still kept in contact with us.
"It is great to have all of her family with us. People are able to talk about her and share their memories of her together. It is the first time we have all been together since her funeral.
"We just wanted to celebrate her life and support MacMillan for the support they provide to cancer patients and their families."
