Subject: Nursery Principal/teacher.
Your place of birth: Belfast.
Studied at: St Mary's University College, Belfast.
First job: D2 (retail).
What it taught me: My part-time position in D2 taught me many skills that I use in teaching today. It taught me how to interact and communicate with the public, working as part of a team, commitment to a job, always having a positive attitude to work and that everybody has a role to play, very job is important in the smooth running of a business.
Family/status: Married to James and blessed with two boys, Ethan and Ewan.
Best advice anyone ever gave you: When you can’t change the direction of the wind, you can always adjust your sails. I think this resonates within personal and professional circumstances enabling me to make realistic and strategic decisions for myself, my family or for the children and families that I work with.
Best advice you could give someone thinking of a teaching career: Teaching is such a fulfilling job. Be prepared to work hard and the rewards will outweigh the challenges. Be organised and be willing to learn and adapt to a new or different encounter every single day. Treat each child as an individual, adapting your learning environment so that each child blossoms to their full potential; always remember, fair isn’t always equal.

I graduated from St Mary’s University College in 2008 in Geography. I secured my first permanent teaching post in St Oliver Plunkett Primary School in 2011. During my time in St Oliver Plunkett PS, I specialised in the Foundation Stage, taking on the role of Year Band Leader, Religion Co-ordinator and DDT. It was a pleasure to work in St Oliver Plunkett and I am thankful for all the professional learning opportunities that I received. In June 2019, I was seconded as Acting Principal to  Cathedral Nursery School.
Cathedral Nursery School has been an inspiring transition to the nursery sector. It has further embedded my love and passion for  Early Years. I absolutely love working in close collaboration with the families of St Peter’s Parish to carve out a learning journey for the pupils as well as their families. The Cathedral Nursery Team are dedicated to the school vision which enhances our holistic approach to our families and the school community. I also am an active member of the GFESC Steering Group and a member of the Sure Start Committee.
