THIS week will see a historic day for Coláiste Feirste hurlers when both Year 9 & 14 will take to the field in their respective Ulster finals. With a hectic year with both teams, who have many dual players performing on both codes for the school, this is seen as a massive achievement for the school.
Year 9 made it to the final of the Rehill Cup with hard fought wins over St Malachy’s Belfast, St Columb’s Derry and a draw with Loreto Coleraine. With Year 9 playing with confidence from these wins, if they continue to work hard as a unit under the guidance of Brian Mac An tSionnaigh and Eoghan Ó Néill there is no reason why the Championship cannot go home with the Falls Road Gaels.
Coláiste Feirste's year 14 road to the Roger Casement Shield final has been down to sheer determination and excellent teamwork. Despite the many talented individuals in the squad, working as a solid unit is the reason for their success so far.
Coláiste Feirste beat Barr na Gaoithe Belfast and Donaghmore impressively and despite losing to St Malachy’s Belfast.
However they progressed to the final following a hard fought victory over Ballydhannon in the knock out stages. The Falls Gaels therefore take their place in the final where they will come up against St Malachy’s again with Ciarán Mag Aoidh and Ronan Ó Scollán working hard to ensure all preparations have gone to plan they hope the hard work pays off come Friday afternoon.
Friday, April 8 will see a historic double header between Coláiste Feirste and St Malachy’s Belfast with year 9 throw in at 12.45 and year 14 final 1.45. Both games will be played at Queen’s and Coláiste Feirste invites all parents and supporters to encourage and support the ever-improving young Gaels from Ard na bhFeá.
