HALLOWEEN may only be over but preparations are already well underway for Belfast's annual Christmas Market.

City Hall grounds were closed-off on Monday as workers began erecting the now-famous stalls. Some amusement rides had also arrived and were waiting to be installed.

Over 100 traders will make up this year's market, set against the background of Belfast City Hall.

The Christmas Market will open on Saturday, November 14 with the switching on of the city's Christmas lights in a special event with the Lord Mayor, Róise-Máire Donnelly.

The markets will be open until December 22.

Belfast City Council are inviting people to "Celebrate the beginning of Christmas magic in Belfast.

"The Christmas Market brings festive cheer, wonderful seasonal food and a special shopping experience to the heart of Belfast," they say.

The market will have the same layout as previous years, and the city's Christmas tree will be at the core of celebrations.
