Sonyia Carleton

St. Theresa's Nursery (Butterfly)

Subject or primary school year: Nursery school.
Your place of birth: Belfast.
Studied at: Belfast Met.
First job: Childcare Coordinator (longest serving job).
What it taught me: That every child matters, every child has a voice, every child is unique. Parents are the primary advocates for their children. It's vital to actively listen to parents in order to gain the best insight on how to support a child's development.
Family/status: Two daughters.
Best advice you could give someone thinking of a teaching career: To think of it as a vocation and not simply a job. You'll never work a day in your life if you truly enjoy what you are doing.

Accomplished playwork and childcare professional with over 30 years’ experience and proven ability to adopt to various settings and responsibilities who has achieved numerous qualifications and trainings. Strong passion for encouraging children to learn through play and to enhance children’s confidence, self-esteem and self-worth. Continually learning through interactions with children and other childcare professionals. Working with children can be a challenging responsibility, but it's highly rewarding, which motivates me on a daily basis
