A MAN in his 40s has been taken to hospital after being shot in the leg in West Belfast.
The incident happened at around 9.35pm on Sunday night in an alleyway that runs between the Falls Road and Ross Road.
Police said the man in his 40s was shot once in his leg and was been taken to hospital for treatment.
Detective Inspector Griffin said: “Although his injuries are thankfully not life-threatening, they are severe and will no doubt leave him with lasting physical and emotional trauma.
“This attack has caused fear and disruption in the very community those responsible for this criminal act claim to protect and there is no justification for this violence.
“I am appealing to anyone who may witnessed this incident, have information, or relevant dash-cam, CCTV or doorbell footage which could assist with our enquiries to make contact with local officers.

West Belfast MP Paul Maskey condemned the shooting.
"There is no place for this type of violence in our community. It is completely unacceptable and is not wanted by local people," he said.
"Those responsible need to stop and think about the fear and distress their actions cause in the community."
