Clifton Athletic II kept up their 100 per cent record for the season with a hard fought win over Malachian Shamrocks at the Grove. Clifton started well and put the Shamrocks under pressure early on with Martin Murphy, Meehan and Mallon all going close. They should have gone ahead but Padraig Murphy was unlucky on three occasions.

Clifton were to pay for their lack of cutting edge as the Shamrocks beat the offside trap to make it 1-0.

Malachians almost extended their lead but for some great saves from Frankie Benson in the Clifton net.

For the second week running Clifton needed a few choice words at half time to get them going, and with Dee Farrell coming on to replace Murphy he wasted no time in getting them going with some great runs.

The Mals looked like they were tiring and after a run down the wing from James Begley, Martin Murphy was on hand to scramble the ball home.

Clifton didn’t have to wait long for number two after Sean Madden smashed the ball into the bottom corner.

Malachians were trying hard to get back into the game but McGurk, Crossey and Seamus O’Donnell, in the Clifton backline, gave nothing away.

Clifton weren’t finished and went close through McEnerney before Farrell scored a great goal to complete the scoring.
