THE FIRST new tenants are expected to move into new houses on the former Bass brewery site on the Glen Road at the start of 2012.

The Andersonstown News has learned that the first of four phases, comprising 60 homes, is scheduled for handover early in the New Year with a full completion date expected for August 2012.

SDLP Councillor Tim Attwood welcomed the news and said that the homes are “very badly needed in the area.”

“This site was developed with the support of Ministers Alex Attwood and Margaret Ritchie and this is good news for those who are on the social housing waiting list with the Housing Executive. It is to be welcomed that families will be moving into these new homes by the start of 2012,” he said.

Carol McTaggart, Clanmil Housing’s Director of Property Services, said work is progressing well on the construction of the “much-needed new homes” on the former Bass brewery site and added she’s looking forward to welcoming the first tenants.

“Throughout the planning and construction of this scheme we have worked closely with the local community, local schools and elected representatives to ensure that we deliver homes that really meet their needs and I would like to thank local political and community representatives for their ongoing support. We also really appreciate the patience that local residents have shown during the development period.”
