Newtownabbey Alliance party representatives met with Stormont ministers this week to talk about housing issues in a Glengormley estate. Assembly member for the area David Ford and councillors John Blair and Lynn Frazer met with Environment Minister Alex Attwood and Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy regarding the potential adoption of roads and the water supply in the Aylesbury and Alderley housing developments.

The North Belfast News has been reporting on issues in the estate over the last few months, where the roads have not been adopted by the Roads Service. This, say residents, has led to street lighting issues as well as ongoing problems with the water supply. David Ford said he was pleased with the positive progress made at the meeting. Cllr John Blair said they will be keeping residents up to date with any progress made after the meeting with the two departments.

A spokeswoman for the Planning Service said there were conditions attached to the planning permissions regarding the layout of roads and sewers in these developments.  “At the meeting, it was agreed  that these issues would be progressed with the co-operation of Road Service, NI Water and the developer’s agent to a satisfactory conclusion for the residents."
