Bank holiday motorists came in for a surprise on Monday morning (June 4) when a fully-grown swan came causally walking up the Antrim Road. The animal, which had escaped from the pond in the Waterworks, was seen flying low over cars at around 10am.

Traffic came to a standstill near The Chester Bar as the bird swanned about before police officers were called to bundle it into the back of their van. Clearly out of their comfort zone, three officers used batons to carefully tease the bird inside. A police spokeswoman said the swan was left safely back to The Waterworks.
