DO you fancy yourself as a bit of a Jamie, Nigella or Gordon? Then why not enter the Balmoral Hotel Masterchef challenge 2017?

This fabulous contest is open to amateur chefs only who can cook whatever their heart desires. All you need is a love for food and the ability to cook under the watchful eye of Balmoral head chef David O’Callaghan.

This is a wonderful opportunity to see first hand the pressures and skills required to work in a busy kitchen at one of Belfast’s finest establishments – oh and also you could grab yourself £500 while you’re at it.

Balmoral owner John Trainor said: “We are looking for ordinary people with a flair for food. We want your favourite dishes, food your granny would have made, good, honest, local, Irish dishes.

“It can be anything from your granny’s stew to a really complicated dish from anywhere in the world. You just need to show us that you have a passion for food and the ability to have a bit of craic while you’re at it.

“We’ve had one well known entrant who insists his beans on toast are to die for. We don’t want to name the fella to embarrass him but it’s Harry Connolly! I’m not too sure how that dish will go down but sure fair play to him for giving it a bash.”

Your culinary masterpieces will be judged by Stix and Stones head chef and West Belfast boy done well Martin Courtney and food blogger John Ferris.

“These guys know their onions” said John. “They are well known food lovers, Martin has the experience in the kitchen and John has the palate for it.

“We would invite individuals, schools and GAA clubs to get onboard and enter.

“There’s bound to be a budding chef or two in Gort na Móna, St Paul’s, Bredagh, or Rossa.  Come on and show us what you’ve got.”
