A West Belfast man has appeared in court charged in relation to a number of incidents that took place over the weekend.

Jonathan Christopher Patrick Markey, with an address at Glengoland Avenue, appeared at Belfast Magistrates Court to face charges of aggravated burglary with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and grievous bodily harm with intent.

It is also alleged that Markey, aged 21, was carrying a knife in the early hours of Saturday when the offences took place.

The charges relate to an aggravated burglary at Ladybrook Cross that took place in the early hours of Saturday morning.  A female occupant of the home was injured during the attack. A car taken from the property was later found burnt out in the Lenadoon area.

Markey applied for bail but was refused as the court was told he was liable to commit further offences.

He was remanded to  Hydebank and is due to appear at Laganside Court again on October 1 via videolink.

A 20-year-old man arrested at the same time on Saturday in relation to the investigation was released on bail pending further enquiries.

Local reports suggest that a man who burnt the car in Lenadoon may have suffered burns before making his escape.
